Team 7’s power comes less from raw skill and more from how differently its members approach conflict. Naruto’s stubborn optimism, Sasuke’s obsession with strength, and Sakura’s steady discipline create friction that drives much of the story’s early tension, while Kakashi’s detached leadership style slowly gives way to genuine investment in his students.

After Sasuke departs from Konoha, the squad reshapes itself around Sai, a former Root operative who communicates through ink-based ninjutsu, and Yamato, a Wood Release user created using cells from Hashirama Senju.

The three other rookie squads round out Konoha’s genin generation: Kurenai’s team (Hinata Hyuga, Kiba Inuzuka, Shino Aburame), built around tracking and sensory combat; Asuma’s team (Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi, Ino Yamanaka), known as the “Ino-Shika-Cho” formation; and Guy’s team (Rock Lee, Neji Hyuga, Tenten), centered on taijutsu and precision weaponry. Wood Release is specifically Hashirama Senju’s own exceptional ability rather than a technique shared broadly across the Senju clan; his descendants, including Tsunade, are not shown using it themselves. The Uchiha clan’s near-total destruction is a more layered event than a simple order carried out: Danzo Shimura pressured Itachi into choosing between letting the clan’s planned coup spiral into open war or eliminating the Uchiha while sparing Sasuke, and Itachi carried out the massacre with Obito Uchiha’s assistance. Gaara’s rise to Kazekage is one of the series’ most complete redemption arcs. As a child, he carried the One-Tailed Shukaku, sealed in him before birth by his father, Rasa, and grew up isolated as a result; his defeat at Naruto’s hands during the Chunin Exams becomes the turning point that leads him to Sunagakure’s highest office. Naruto Villains Beyond the Akatsuki

Orochimaru spends most of the story pursuing forbidden experiments independent of the Akatsuki, later training Sasuke during his years away from Konoha. The story’s final antagonist, Kaguya Otsutsuki, predates the Akatsuki’s founders by centuries and is tied to the ancient origin of chakra. Her son, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, later divides his chakra between his own two sons, Indra and Asura. That chakra reincarnates through later generations of shinobi, including Madara and Hashirama, and eventually Sasuke and Naruto.
